Create a Better Social Context For Your Blog With Livefyre

I have now installed Livefyre on mattiasgronborg.com after some research during the weekend. I heard positive rumors about Livfyre during this spring and I used it on Jay Baer’s convince&convert blog shortly thereafter. Livefyre commenting system really takes the social environment on your blog to the next level. Livefyre has a lot of great features to create an even better engaged community and I want to share my first experiences with you in this post.

Very smooth setup with full control

I changed from Disqus and the setup was very easy. It looks like Livfyre imported everything correct. All of the comments is imported and the new comments is syncing back to my database.

Social features I like with Livefyre

Social sharing: Maybe you have read through a thread of comments and realized you liked a specific comment and thought about the need to share the comment with your social graph. This function is lacking in many other commenting system and from a social context perspective it’s important when you are building your online community. With Livefyre this is possible and any posted comment can be posted to social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

Friend tagging options for users:  Users can tag people in their Facebook and Twitter network in the comments using the @ symbol. This is a great door opener for your community and the user can invite his or her social graph (friends) to join the conversation on your blog.

Easy to join the conversation:  Social log in allows user to easy and fast join the conversation with validated profiles via their Google, Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn accounts. Also Gravatar supported. This is very good and also contribute to more transparency and a better humanized community (blog post about how to humanize your company and brand in social media).

Ability to only receive one email for all the comments: A Smart aggregation function to avoid your inbox to get flooded with notification emails every time  someone leaves a comment.

Please leave a comment and test the functions; what did you think?

Looks great ! i feel that this is a good alternative to Disqus.

saramtevis The only thing I feel Disqus has that Livefyre doesn't is the larger subscribers and guest commenting (guest commenting will come very soon for Livefyre). So far I also think it is a great system and am endorsing it.

Good to know about WP Touch Pro as I use it myself on DragonBlogger.com and intend to put in Livefyre in next few days. I am already using it on 2 of my smaller blogs.

I discovered today that livefyre shows comment notifications in my WP touch pro plugin. (mobile theme). That's awesome! It didn't work with Disqus.

Hey Mattias,

Thanks for taking the time to do such a thorough write-up as well as for the kind words. We're pumped to be a part of your community, and if there's ever anything we can do for you, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Also, great clip with Gary Vee. It's funny, the first time I met the guy I had no idea who he was. I was at SxSW this past year and I was going to his keynote session. He was standing at the door and shaking people's hands, thanking them for showing up. I shook his hand and he said, "Hey man, thanks for coming!" and I was like "Oh thanks man!" and kept walking, no idea who he was. It was kind of funny, as 3 minutes later he was on the stage giving his talk and I was like, "oooooh, that was him?!"

JMattHicks Hi welcome and thanks for your engagement here on my small community. :) Now It's also confirmed that Livefyre care about their users. I'm thrilled! Actually you can help me with a follow up question from our conversation on Twitter.

I asked you on Twitter: If it was possible to create a widget on my wordpress blog with the latest comments? I had that with Disqus.

You answered on Twitter: Hi Mattias, we'll have custom widgets available soon but the standard WP recent comment widget from you WP-Admin panel also works!

It's great that the standard WP recent comments work but I want something with more design like Disqus has. When do you think Livefyre will release it? This is important..

Awesome that you met garyvee and had the opportunity to shake his hand and listen to his keynote. :) He really brought the thunder when he visited Stockholm. It is two years ago since I saw an online video with him for the first time; he talked about blogging and personal branding. Gary has made a big difference to me with his videos.

Mattias Gronborg Hey Mattias. We don't have an exact date for release for custom widgets, but they are going to be rolled out to soon and I'll make sure you're aware of it when they do!

And yes, Gary Vee is definitely good at what he does. He doesn't buy into a lot of the social media hype, and I respect and appreciate that about him.

JMattHicks 1740 pts moderator

Mattias Gronborg And when I say hype I don't mean the effectiveness of it, I mean the "social media expert" labels and such!

Mattias Gronborg 18 pts moderator

JMattHicks Indeed "social media expert" labels are stupid. I'm looking forward for your updates about a release date for the widget. Keep in touch!

JMattHicks Hi Jeremy! I miss the edit function when you leave a comment? Sometimes you post a comment and realize you forgot something..

Mattias Gronborg Hey Mattias, we don't have an editing feature at the moment, but that is on our dev plan and will be available soon! We'll make sure you know of it when it is!

robsearch Yes I'm testing it now and I will write a blog post later about: Disqus vs. Livefyre.
