Making Comparisons Stifles Your Creativity

Comparison Is The Thief Of Joy

This blog post probably does not mean so much for you, as it does for me. It happened two months ago, I started to compare the creation I did here on my blog with other bloggers. I do not need to mention names but I can promise you that I always choose tough opponents when I slide into this destructive habit. Of course, I can find excuses to numb my conscience with, I have a daily avalanche of tasks to shuffle at iGoMoon. But honestly, that dog won’t hunt, if I remind myself of the big picture.

So What Happened?

More often than not, I get ideas what I should write about, then I decide that my ideas and opinions is not good enough, interesting enough or, most stupid of all, groovy enough. I lose the purpose of why I should sustain this blog with content, and why I’m blogging in English. You stifle your creativity when you are in this destructive mode, comparing yourself with others. Have you ever tasted this disruptive bad habit?

A Discipline Of Iron

So why does this blog post mean so much for me? I’m going to tell you why. You know the feeling when you have not worked out at the gym for a while. How only the thought of attaching your workout shoes on your feet makes you shiver with boredom. When it comes to training I have a discipline of iron, I tie my workout shoes even if I not feel for it. I felt boredom for blogging and stopped writing, but I must be humble to myself because I’m the process of building these writing muscles, and this blog post is my next step toward a blogging discipline of iron. What kind of step can you take today to strive towards your goals?

Circle Of Support

If you are like most people, you have suffered at times from an unhealthy self-image, that has hindered you from being, doing or achieving goals in life. This is normal, but do not stay in the pity hole, because progress is an active choice. Yesterday I had a Skype call with my friend Ahna Hendrix, she is a keen social media consultant and freelance interactive designer. We had an inspiring chat about creativity, business and social media. Ahna is a part of my circle of support today, and I can now take my next step towards my goals because of our conversation. One of the biggest reasons why I’m blogging is to developing my English skill sets. Follow Ahna on Twitter here, she makes a difference! Do you have a trusted circle of support?

It’s Your Turn

Have this post kickin up some serious dust for you? Or was it only a small step for me..

Yes, we all need positive people in our lives who push us to the next level.  As to being bored with blogging, I personally found that when I tried to stick to a schedule to blog, I lost interest cause it felt forced. So, I stopped creating an editorial calendar and write when I am inspired.  Write when you have a message to deliver (like this post) and not because you have to.

I totally agree with you.

As a human being and as a small business owner it is important to have a support networks of some kind. We all feel down and not up to scratch sometimes - it is just human nature.

Having people around you that you support and they support you is vital to staying on track and to enabling personal growth.

Where would we be if no one challenged our views, ideas and negative thoughts? In a heap of trouble me thinks. You can't live or work in a vacuum.

@kittiewalker Thanks for your participation. I believe it is so important to build this network around us like you say, we need our ideas challenged if we want to grow to the next level on this journey. It takes time to build this network of trusted peers. But the wider your net become, the greater your opportunities get.
