Monetize your digital life with MyCube

With MyCube you can share your information, ideas and content with others while maintaining full ownership and control of what you share, with whom, and on what terms. I have punished the MyCube beta for a while. At first sight it doesn’t look so remarkable but when you check under the hood; you don’t need to know anything about betas to understand that MyCubes mission together with the teams Internet experience is nothing you should underestimate. I’m very curious about this and I follow the MyCube journey every day.

Let’s pop the hood on MyCube

The founder and president of MyCube is Johan Staël von Holstein; he is best known as the co-founder of dot-com companies such as Icon Medialab and LetsBuyIt during the dot-com boom in Sweden. Johan is a remarkable Internet visionary. He was probably a decade before the time with LetsBuyIt. Today we can see companies like Groupon monetizing on a similar business idea. My philosophical side always shudder of pleasure when I listen to his keynote speeches. When I listen to him I see before me the freedom characters in the book Atlas Shrugged written by Ayn Rand. The question is; who is John Galt? (You need to read the book to understand).

MyCube the world’s first social exchange

MyCube is not simply about connecting and sharing. Other social networking services focus more on that. MyCube is about interacting with others in a way that maximizes the benefits, and minimizes the costs, which is the principle of the social exchange theory. MyCube is claiming they are the World’s first Social Exchange. The idea is that you should take control of your content and lock it into MyCube’s vault. From here you can monetize on your content and set different sharing settings. Check out the latest blog post on MyCube: How much is your user generated content worth? Here you can see the huge amount of user generated content (UGC) that is uploaded, and try to figure out how much social networks are earning from it. What do you think? I still have a lot of questions when it comes to monetization part.

But where is the engagement

I need to make a stab on the engagement part; MyCube have passed 22500 beta users but they are not doing anything to engage with people in social media. The blog and the news room is lame so far. I think they miss a big opportunity to breathe the big picture to win hearts and minds. MyCube: It seems like you don’t have a social media marketing strategy?

What do you think? Are you a beta user of MyCube yet?

Great summary of Mycube.  I also belive that with the great experience of Johan Stael von Holstein and his team, they are obviously looking into the crystalball and they have something to build on for the future.  I get the social exchange and the monetization part. But if we look at the way online communitites today are building up their brands. Its all about free content and sharing free information in order to expand their engagement with their target group. And then in step 2 , they can make money from this. Mycube needs a big user base to achieve this goal. And as you say where is the engagement today within social media for Mycube? maybe Facebook and twitter are evil, but Mycube needs more engagement. I will follow the Mycube journey!

I get it how web services sell our content to advertisers to make money and we have also accepted those terms when we signed up for this social service. But how much of this content is worth anything if we should sell it bit by bit like fruit on a market? You are touching this topic when you describes how brands are UNmarketing with free content. You can only monetize when the relationship is established. But I try to understand the bigger picture how you should use MyCube to really monetize on it. If big magazines and newspaper have problem to monetize on their content because savvy bloggers are providing the same stuff for free. Nobody can start day one and sell content. You need to provide free content and apply the thank you economy to earn your right to monetize. Feel free to debate me! :) @robsearch:twitter
