Pimp your Google Plus profile URL with Gplus.to

Your Google+ profile URL is so meaningless and it doesn’t make sense for human beings and it looks stupid when you share it with someone in an email and on social networks. Mine for an example is user 116156406205690279055.

Gplus.to

Today 350.496+ people use Gplus.to to pimp the profile URL. Gplus.to has been around for a while and some of you of course already know about it but I received this question today so I want to make a short post about it. You need to choose your nickname and paste your Google+ ID (the numbers) and then you have your redirect in place. Now I can share this link with people instead: gplus.to/mattiasgronborg. I’m not sure yet how this affects the SEO longterm value because this is not an official Google product. SEO dudes what do you think?

Privacy

When I tried this service I realized it’s not any verification what-so-ever in place here. I can take anyone’s Google+ ID and create a new unique URL for any profile. This is not so good any thoughts about it? Have you tried any other ways to create a vanity URL for Google+?

Honestly, I was so impressed I found my way to the URL shortener and was able to get my personalized URL, I wasn't worried about trying any shifty business.

I suppose there are people out there that would participate in negative behavior.  But so far, I haven't found those people on G+.
