Put Your Ear To The Ground And Listen Carefully

We have talked about step one how you should involve the right people for your social strategy. In this post we will discuss step two: The listening phaseYou discover your customers intrests by listen to them. Listening also gives you influence and makes it possible to win hearts online. You can’t guide anyone with your “content” if you don’t understand their “desires” first. Every successfull entrepreneur or sales rep knows this, that’s why they are successful.

Listen and find conversations

First we need to setup a listening station (how to set up a free listening station). Depending on the budget and size of your company you should use different tools and there are hundreds of listening tools out there you can buy. Many of them remind of each-other and I think you should choose carefully here. There is no “one size fits all” solution. Listening is probably the most important part of the strategy. Listen to my Interview with Gary Vaynerchuk no one describes it better than Gary.

What are they saying about your company

Questions to ask yourself and your team members in step two:

  • What are people saying about our brand and company?
  • You need to draw attention to if they are loving or hating you?
  • What are they saying about our competitors?
  • Who is saying this and what are they doing online?
  • How will this affect your business?
  • Where are they saying it? (Google+, Twitter, Facebook etc.)
  • How much of all this chatter is about your business and brand?

What do you think about the listening mode; what is important? Pleas leave a comment!
