In social media we talk about 8×1 rule; every time you talk about your company you need to talk about your customers or something else eight times to balance the scale again. You probably already know that social media is about listen, respond, participate and storytelling. Today you can see how well a brand is performing online by checking their Klout score. Twitter Counter is another similar tool but I will not talk about it today.
Keep track of your Klout score
The scores range from 1 to 100 with higher scores representing a wider and stronger sphere of influence. I tried to explain a few of the variables in the video; Klout uses over 35 different variables on Facebook and Twitter to measure true reach, amplification probability, and network Score. I summarize the info from Klout below.
True reach
True Reach is broken into the following subcategories:
- Are your tweets interesting and informative enough to build an audience?
- How far has your content been spread across Twitter?
- Are people adding you to lists and are those lists being followed?
Amplification Ability
Amplification Probability is the likelihood that your content will be acted upon. Amplification Ability is a composite of the following subcategories:
Engagement:
- How diverse is the group that @ messages you?
- Are you broadcasting or participating in conversations?
Velocity:
- How likely are you to be retweeted?
- Do a lot of people retweet you or is it always the same few followers?
-
Are you tweeting too little or too much for your audience?
-
Are your tweets effective in generating new followers, retweets and @ replies?
Network influence
Network Influence is the influence level of your engaged audience. Network Score looks at the Klout score of each person who interacts with you to determine:
-
How influential are the people who @ message you?
-
How influential are the people who retweet you?
-
How influential are the people who follow you?
-
How influential are the people who list you?
- How influential are the people who follow the lists you are on?

I'm about the same as you Mattias @ 57. I wonder how the new LinkedIn connection will either help/not help scores. We all love numbers, but I have to remind myself that this is not as comprehensive an overview as we would like it to me. If klout was scoring ability to eat chocolate.. I would score 100. lol.
