If you believe business is built on relationships, make building them your business. Scott Stratten tells us we need to believe that line to UnMarket. If we don’t; return the book. I strongly recommend UnMarketing: Stop Marketing. Start Engaging. (affiliate link) by Scott Stratten. This book is fun read and Scott’s humor comes through in a lovely way. This is not a new book, but still a “you need to read book on your list”. It doesn’t matter if you are starting out with social media today or if you have been in the game for a while this book is for everyone.
Things have changed
Do you like getting cold-called, having your mailbox clogged with selling push mails from idiots that you never heard from? Do you listen carefully to the ads that interrupt at TV. Scott explains in the book what you need to understand to be successful today in the marketing world. It’s all about converting real relationships into business, this book is a real page turner!
Beautiful storytelling
This book is beautiful storytelling in action with a lot of examples I haven’t heard about before. I love it because I have read a bunch of books from the industry and very often you find same best practice stories in different books, of course this can be inevitable sometimes but I like that Scott designed it properly.
What you will learn by reading UnMarketing
- Where in the “Hierarchy of buying” you should focus your marketing efforts.
- Understand the definition of a marketing expert and why you should avoid a self-proclaimed expert in social media.
- Great real practice examples how you can think outside the box in many different marketing situations.
- Seven deadly social media sins.
- I love the chapter when Scott explains how Twitter changed his business. Don’t look to build quantity, build quality. I started at zero followers, and have grown it out of engagement, one person at a time.
- Many great lessons about Affiliate, e-mail marketing, e-book, tele seminars and much more.

Hierarchy Of Buying
This is probably one of the best books I have read in the industry.
Have you read it? what did you think?
