Personal changes & self-care

Today Mattias talks about the changes he has seen in himself and where he has looked for answers during his entrepreneurial journey.

Trusting your own intuition

The first thing that comes to mind for him is that he is much more purpose-driven today than he used to be. He puts a lot of emphasis on the vision of his company and makes sure that everyone is aware of that vision. Another big difference can be seen in where he is looking for answers these days. 10 years ago he was very focused and almost distracted by other people's opinions and tried to find answers to his personal questions by looking to his left and right. Nowadays he rather looks inside himself to find solutions. A big reason for this development is definitely that his self-esteem has grown over time resulting in Mattias trusting his own intuition, rather than listening to other people's voices. Something else that comes with having more trust in himself is that he usually does not push as far anymore when it comes to discussions with other people.

Being happy or being right?

Mattias naturally is a person who doesn't like to lose and accordingly winning arguments used to be very important to him. Now he does not feel the urge anymore to prove anything to anyone and has realized that arguing does not help anyone getting closer to the bigger picture. In that context, he mentions the Swedish saying: "What is more important? Being happy or being right?". However, he does admit that he sometimes still falls into old patterns of wanting to be right and in those moments he is not particularly proud of himself.

12 Steps to self-care

Svea brings up a note next to Mattias’ computer which he shares with everyone. The note includes 12 steps to self-care he tries to remind himself of every day:

1. If it feels wrong, don't do it.
2. Say exactly what you mean.
3. Don't be a people pleaser.
4. Trust your instincts.
5. Never speak badly about yourself.
6. Never give up on your dreams.
7. Don't be afraid to say no.
8. Don't be afraid to say yes.
9. Be kind to yourself.
10. Let go of what you can't control.
11. Stay away from drama and negativity.
12. Love.

When being asked which of these 12 points is the hardest for him to execute, he responds with "all of them". However, Mattias is a lot more aware of himself than he used to be and that helps him to reflect on his actions and understand what he has to work on. He adds that he is not a saint and certainly does not know the answer to everything. Life is about learning and improving yourself day by day.
